South Florida’s second Mandarin Oriental hotel — a luxury brand known for its service and design — is coming to Boca Raton.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group of Hong Kong announced Tuesday that it plans to manage a hotel and residences under development at Federal Highway and Camino Real. The property is expected to open in late 2017.

The project will consist of 158 hotel rooms and suites in one tower called Mandarin Oriental, Boca Raton. An adjacent tower connected by a sky bridge will house The Residences at Mandarin Oriental with 100 residences for purchase.

The hotel will have a rooftop restaurant with outdoor terrace and bar, a rooftop pool, a spa, a lobby lounge, a cake shop and a club lounge. It also will have a 4,500-square-foot ballroom and several smaller conference rooms.

The development is part of the high-end Via Mizner mixed-use project being developed by Penn-Florida Cos. of Boca Raton.

Via Mizner also will include 65,000 square feet of luxury retail and a private club offering social, fitness and championship golf, according to Penn-Florida.

South Florida’s first Mandarin Oriental opened in Miami in late 2000.

Mandarin Oriental hotels are known for excellent service, innovative dining, holistic spas, and creative design and architecture. The global hotel company has five other U.S. properties, in Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, New York and Washington, D.C., according to its website.

“Mandarin Oriental is a high-profile, luxury brand that attracts guests from all over the world,” said Jorge Pesquera, president and CEO for Discover The Palm Beaches, the county’s tourism marketing corporation.

In addition to providing what they call “21st century luxury with oriental charm,” Mandarin Oriental hotels try to reflect their local culture.

The design of the Boca Mandarin hotel-residences — created by global hospitality design firm SB Architects of Coral Gables —is expected to pay tribute to Boca’s Mediterranean-influenced architecture.
