Via Mizner, a downtown Boca Raton hotel and residential complex, has brought on golf great Jack Nicklaus to redesign its golf course into a championship course as part of the project’s private club, the Via Mizner Golf & City Club.
The City Club will be inside the new Mandarin Oriental hotel, part of the 830,000-square-foot complex now under construction at the northeast corner of Federal Highway and Camino Real.
The Golf Club will be at the soon-to-be redesigned golf course five miles west of Via Mizner, off Palmetto Park Road and west of Military Trail.
The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course will feature advanced practice and teaching facilities, a new club house and fitness center, Har-Tru tennis courts, resort-style pool, children’s playground and more dining venues.
Bringing Nicklaus of North Palm Beach into the project blends two international brands.
Nicklaus designs golf courses around the globe, and the Mandarin Oriental operates some of the world’s most exclusive hotels, resorts and residences in 19 countries and territories. The Boca Raton hotel is one of only nine Mandarin Oriental residences in the world.
Nicklaus has designed more than 400 golf courses in 41 countries and 39 states. They include several courses in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. Examples are the Champion Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens; Trump National Club and the Loxahatchee Club, both in Jupiter; Lost Tree in North Palm Beach; and Bear Lakes Country Club and Ibis Country Club, both in West Palm Beach.
Nicklaus and his Nicklaus Design already have started pre-construction work on the Via Mizner golf course, including site analysis, landscaping and preliminary plans. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2017, with completion set for the fall.
At the Mandarin Oriental downtown, the City Club will feature a members-only clubroom and lounge, with private dining rooms, wine-tasting areas and a kids club. Membership includes access to all the hotel amenities, including its two resort-style rooftop pools, spa and athletic club.
The developer of the Via Mizner complex is Penn-Florida Companies of Boca Raton. In a statement, Penn-Florida Chairman and Chief Executive Mark Gensheimer said his goal was to create an “urban resort” offering a full-service luxury lifestyle. Via Mizner consists of 366 apartments, the five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel, plus 85 luxury condominiums.
The condos will be completed in 2018, but reservations already are being taken at moresidencesbocaraton.com.
The condos are priced at $2 million to $18 million and reservations are being taken for the units, which range in size from 1,400 square feet to 6,000 square feet. Penthouses range from from 4,700 square feet to 8,900 square feet.
The apartments are already built and and tenants now are moving in. The rental apartments range in size and price, from a studio with 528 square feet, costing $1,845 per month, to a three-bedroom with 2,150 square feet costing $5,895 per month, according to Al Piazza, Penn-Florida senior vice president.
The apartments, dubbed 101 Via Mizner, are part of a wave of new apartments opening in downtown Boca Raton this year.
For instance, Palmetto Promenade is a 378-unit apartment, townhouse and retail complex stretching three blocks on Palmetto Park Road, east of Federal Highway. Rates start at $2,024 for apartments, which range from one to three bedrooms and go up to $4,384 a month; townhomes cost up to $5,329 a month. Sizes range from 712 square feet to 2,922 square feet.
